History has played a cruel trick on women.

They fought for their rights, burned their corsets, started global empowerment & equality movements. They have been standing up for themselves for centuries and don’t tolerate anything demeaning.

All this, while men’s behavior has suppressed ages of courtship etiquette into a en exquisite: “Do you sleep on your stomach? No. Can I?”

Men have been coming on to me, badly, for ages.

In the dating world, the DON’Ts are as important as the Dos, and that is why I’ll cover them first.

These type of behaviors will make women notice you, but not in a good way, so pay attention and try to steer clear of them.

Mr. Obvious

Shocking fact: You’re not the first guy to hit on her and you’ll not be the last.

You’re not the first and only to ever notice she has big eyes, a great smile or killer legs. The first thing you observe is what she’s been hearing about her entire life.

Now you see why you’re opening act is not welcomed with standing ovation.

Women have been receiving unsolicited opinions regarding every aspect of their bodies since they were 12. Some were compliments. Some were interjections, whistle tunes on the street mixed with religious exclamations.

What do to: Old school manners with a modern twist

Be specific.

Go for the unique detail you like about her, her outfit or personality.

Stand out by making her feel special, as opposed to pointing out her “assets”.

Knowing you see her in a different light and like a peculiarity, that you took the time to notice and value it makes all the difference.

Adding emotion to your compliment by making her feel in a certain way will guarantee she remembers you and most probably, she’ll be left wanting more of that feeling.

Remember, we fall in love with the way somebody makes us feel.

Mr. Helicopter

How it happens: You and your friends try to get closer and closer to the woman or group of ladies of your interest.

By doing that, you create a sort of circle around them, hovering over their every move and…nothing more.

Proximity to your target will not take you anywhere. It will backfire. It’s borderline creepy.

Women don’t feel safe and don’t like to be isolated or put in a corner.

Since getting close is your only move, as if your long distance vision is impaired, nothing good can come from it.

What to do: Being physically closer improves the chances of her noticing you, so go further and take actions as well as steps.

Since you’re there, you can notice things about her. See what she’s drinking, who is she taking to. Does she enjoy dancing or she’s into conversations?

Chances are she’s been noticing your location proximity dance towards her so why not come clean about it? Let her know that she’s the reason for it.

Honesty can do wonders. It’s refreshing and it connects you instantly.

Mr. Serial One-Liner

I’ve seen this 1000 times.

A guy walks up to me, tries a pick up line and after that moves on the next victim. Repeats the process at least 5 times a night, in the same club.

News flash: women have eyes! We can see that you’ve made your killer move to more than one girl that night.

Women are interested in being the apple of your eyes, the only one you’re seeing in the room. We’re not into shared attention when it comes to the man we choose.

When you’re showing the same amount of interest in more than one woman in a row, 5 minutes apart, you can’t expect great results.

We know, you’re trying.

It’s your right to be open-hearted and try your luck.

But how many times did this strategy of serial perseverance actually worked and you went home with a date, a phone number or something else?

It takes a killer combination of alcohol and really low self esteem for a woman to find your distributed attention appealing.

What to do: take your time and pick a girl that you really are into it

Instead of failing several times, put all your efforts, manners & charm into one meaningful move that can lead to more. Even if you don’t get her number, she’ll see you as a decent guy and not a horny ape.

Even if she doesn’t respond positively, at least you’ll have a lesson to learn from it.

I know the learning process is faster if you’d go through this several times per night, can’t argue with that. But in this case, you’ll have a standing chance or a more insightful lesson.

Besides, doing the exact same thing every time and expecting a different result is absurd.

Mr. Peacock

Women have expectations. Even from strangers that want to approach them in a club.

Women are allergic to pick up lines.

We’ve heard them all. Our immune system can’t tolerate them.

What do you really think can happen, after you’ve told her: ”That’s a nice shirt. Can I talk you out of it?” She’ll give you the independent woman talk & take it off herself? Nope, she’ll think your a douche.

What to do: Even if you are looking for casual fun for one night, treat women with respect.

The trick is not just to make them respond to you. A spilled drink in your face is still a response, right? You want them to be safe around you, to trust & like you.

Be genuine & human. Women will always match that.

Mr. Love, Self-Love

Whenever they’re talking to women, these guys are reciting an hymn to themselves.

From the timeless “I hear you’re thirsty? Well I’ve got a six pack right here!” to the endless symphony of job titles and achievements, these men care about self validation and not the other person.

What to do: when talking to women, make it about them, not you.

You have to ask relevant questions, that can lead to more insights about her interests. No “yes” or “no” questions.

Take your eyes of her cleavage, your ego out of the way and be present.

The goal of approaching somebody is to get to know them better, and see if you have things in common and if it can lead to something more.

Give yourself this chance to find out interesting things about a new person. Be opened and genuinely focused on this.

Women have a six sense for BS and will instantly know what your true intentions are.
